To celebrate the completion of multiple activities and the closing of the project \"Reduction and prevention of negative impacts, as well as emergency humanitarian situations resulting from flood disasters on very vulnerable populations living in poverty in the watersheds of the Goascor\u00e1n, Nacaome, Lempa and Acelhuate rivers in Honduras and El Salvador\", a binational closing event was held in a community near the border between the two countries. It included the participation of national and local Civil Protection authorities from El Salvador and Honduras, local and international organizations that participated in the implementation of project activities, representatives of organizations of people with disabilities and a delegation from our headquarters that included Mr. Ulrich Bauch, Federal Manager of Federal ASB worldwide.<\/p>\n
The project succeeded in reducing the damage caused by recurrent flooding in communities living on the banks of the rivers mentioned above. To this end, Flood Early Warning Systems (SATI) were installed, hydrological studies were carried out in each country, hydrometric stations and scales were built, and communities, schools, community and municipal civil protection committees were trained so that people who are going to carry out observation and monitoring immediately after seeing a chart can know if the river is in green, yellow or red level and effectively communicate to other community members how to assume the warnings and proceed with concrete actions depending on each one.<\/p>\n
